Podcast Response

While searching itunes, I came across some very interesting podcasts regarding cancer and the treatment advances that are being made. On this podcast, they mention the dramatic advances that have been made. Bio-therapy, the new, less toxic medicine, have resulted in increased long term survival rates. Although this podcast is from January of 2006, this still seems very promising and more and more advancements are still being made today. This podcast also deals with the emotional stress that comes with being diagnosed with cancer. I could only imagine they amount of sadness one would feel if they find out that they have cancer, a disease that kills many through out the world. In this podcast, specialist analyze how although it is very stressful on the emotions, through support groups, blogs, and information websites, these anxious, scared, or even angry feelings, can turn into hope and acceptance.

Who Is more Prone to Cancer?

Who is more prone to cancer? How can you tell? These are questions that doctors are working hard to discover. Extensive research has revealed that some people maybe more prone to cancer than another because of their genes that where given to them by their parents. This is the reason that certain forms of cancer run in certain families. Cancer researchers are still working to figure out the exact genes that make certain people more likely to get certain types of cancer. On the other hand, a person can bring cancers, for example lung cancer, on themselves. If a person smokes all their life, they have a pretty good chance of getting lung cancer from their poor lifestyle choice. Lack of healthy diets may cause stomach or even colon cancer. Doctors are certain that there are many other factors that can lead to cancer, but they are still being researched.

Statistics

I'm still waiting to speak to a cancer expert, but I was looking up cancer statistic and what I discovered was very shocking. In a poll in 2002, it was estimated that about 555,500 Americans will die from cancer each year, corresponding to 1,500 deaths per day. Something that was very upsetting was that at least 1,400 of these people were children ages 0-14. If you check out this website there is a very interesting country mortality rate comparison.

Cell Phones = Cancer?

Some experts say that cell phones maybe linked to different forms of brain cancer. Cancer is such an issue and doctor's are still working to find cures. Because most teenager and adults are addicted to their cell phones, this issue is very relevant to today's world. Cell phones play a large part in many peoples lives and it seems unlikely that people will easily give them up.Without concrete evidence about the cancer link and cell phones, this topic will remain very controversial. I feel like many people aren't taking this warning seriously, because the evidence is very difficult to prove. What to do think we should do, if anything, to protect ourselves from this possible threat?

This is a very interesting article from CNN regarding this topic.
